On October 17th, The Original FARM closed in-preparation for Provincial licensing.

Why is The Original FARM Closed?

The Original FARM was Victoria’s first licensed cannabis retailer because of our willingness to work with local municipality leadership and law enforcement.

The commitment to the regulations that allow our industry to flourish continues as we close our doors. During this closure, we will be transitioning from the current municipal bylaws and being compliant as a medicinal cannabis dispensary, to new provincial and federal laws and licensing with the province of British Columbia to operate non-medical cannabis retail stores. Achieving compliance with the regulations that take effect October 17th, 2018 will not be difficult for FARM as we have been preparing for this for over three years. While we await provincial licensing and our first batch of new products ordered through the provincial government and Canadian Licensed Producers (LPs), FARM will utilize this time to make improvements to our retail experience and website.

When the Federal Cannabis Act (Bill C-45: an Act respecting cannabis and to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Criminal Code and other Acts) is enacted, all clearance sales items as well as products acquired from The Original FARM before October 17th, 2018 are final sale. The Original FARM can no longer accept returned products due to them becoming illegal (not sourced through the provincial government wholesaler) post-October 17th, 2018.

When is The Original FARM Reopening?

The Original FARM will be reopening as soon as possible. We anticipate becoming one of the first licensed cannabis retailers legally operating in B.C. under the new provincial system. Our completed provincial license application was submitted at the end of August and we remain in good standing with licensing and the municipality of Victoria. There are a few more steps with licensing and our municipality that require resolution, but FARM has provided all the information necessary and we must allow these partners to do their work. We are in close communication to expedite the process, as all those involved truly want legal cannabis retail as soon as possible. All parties foresee this moving forward quickly and as the best way to eliminate the black market, as well as educating the public about legal product and responsible use. The Cannabis Act will allow individuals over the age of 19 to legally purchase dried cannabis flower, cannabis oil (tinctures) and capsules.

Alongside our customers, on October 17th The Original FARM will be thrilled to celebrate a new cannabis era. Upon reopening, FARM will continue to offer the widest range of quality products, weekly sales, and same great customer service from our knowledgeable, experienced staff.

Thank you for your continued support. We can’t wait to serve you soon.
